pier house - hgal

Project Description:

This project was especially important to Hedley Greentree Associates Limited. It is a building located in the high street near the central offices, the structure has been derelict for approximately 5 years and with its central location in Lee-on-the-Solent the building was fast becoming an eyesore.

The building has a strong historic background in Lee: originally a hotel it was then turned into an retirement home which was eventually closed and the residents were relocated. HGAL proposed a renovation project on the site, with minor alterations to the facade to tie the building back into the style of Lee.

The ground floor of the building will be retail on the main shopping street, whilst addressing the private gardens will be ground floor apartments. On the first and second floors will be apartments matching those on the ground floor. On the uppermost floor will be the penthouse suites that afford views across the Solent.

My role in the project was to draw up the existing elevations, the proposed plans and elevations to produce a document to present to the Council planning department on behalf of HGAL, to demonstrate the contextual symmetry of the renovation work. Once planning was granted I worked with a senior architect to detail the structure and produce a three-dimension rendering of the penthouse suites in Sketch-Up.
